“Kill the Lights” is a song by American pop singer Britney Spears from her sixth studio album. Produced by Danja, the song’s lyrics talk about the paparazzi, the media and the consequences of becoming a celebrity. Musically, “Kill the Lights” is an upbeat dance song.

The song received positive reviews, many critics comparing it to a previous Spears’ single, “POM”. “Kill the Lights” reached number eleven on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100.

Music video

An animated music video directed by PUNY debuted on July 27, 2009. The video was inspired by the winner of a fan fiction contest held on Spears’ website, 28-year-old Argentinian Eliana Moyano.
The video begins with an animated Danja, then an animated Britney Spears jumps into her rocket ship and flies to another planet. As she flies, some of the paparazzi follow her. She hides on the planet, turning lights on as she walks. Then paparazzi appear to stalk her and she avoids them, and then flies into space in her rocket ship and struck the planet maneuvering a joystick and killed all the lights on the planet. Even though the song’s length was 3:59, the video is only 2:08, as the second verse and chorus is omitted.
The animated video premiered on Spears’ websites, and was released for purchase via iTunes on September 15.

Length 3:59 (Album Version)
2:08 (Video Version)

“If U Seek Amy” is a song by American pop singer Britney Spears from her sixth studio album. It was released on March 10, 2009 by Jive Records as the third single of the album. In the song, Spears is looking for a woman named Amy in a club, and although it appears to be about sex, it is actually about how society perceives her life. The track was co-written and produced by Max Martin, who also wrote previous hits for Spears’ first three albums.

“If U Seek Amy” was well received by the critics, most calling it one of the highlights the album. It is also known for its double entendre name, and caused controversy in English speaking countries. “If U Seek Amy” peaked at number nineteen in the Billboard Hot 100 and reached the top twenty in twelve countries.

Filming for the video began on February 10, 2009, and was directed by Jake Nava, who previously worked with Spears for her 2004 music video “My Prerogative”. The music video premiered on March 12, 2009 on both Virgin Mobile‘s official website and Spears’s official websites.

The video starts with a news anchor saying the title of the song above a news banner that reads “Britney Spears song lyrics spell out obscenity in disguise,” a parody of an America’s Newsroom report by Megyn Kelly. It then skips to a house, in which a sex party is coming to an end. Spears gets up from the bed wearing a pair of bespoke red petal Christian Louboutin pumps and a black sleeveless top. She sings the first verse and looks out the window. As it ends, she picks down from the floor a pair of panties, recalling her personal struggles and the “Piece of Me” video. She dances with four male dancers in the first chorus. During the second chorus, she dances with four other female dancers dressed in cheerleading outfits, while all the guys are watching them dance. The screen fades to white and Britney begins to change into a conservative ’50s-style outfit including a Lacoste polo shirt, white skirt, and white heels. As the chorus begins again, she comes out of her bedroom. She walks down the stairs, with dancers surrounding her and a woman gives her a potholder, which she uses to pick up a pie.

She then gets out of the house and is joined by her seemingly conservative-looking husband and children, one of them dressed as Spears original outfit in the “…BOMT” video. . As they go down the walkway, they are surrounded by paparazzi, who have no idea what goes on behind closed doors. While the kids and husband wave, Spears smiles for the camera and blows a kiss. The video then ends with the news anchor saying, “It doesn’t make any sense, does it?”.

Rolling Stone called it “controversial” and that the clip “does not disappoint”. They describe the party on the video as “Eyes Wide Shut without the masks or creepy music”. MTV called it one of Spears’ best videos, listing all the references to her past videos.

“Circus” is a song by American pop singer Britney Spears from her sixth studio album of the same name. It was released on December 1, 2008 as the second single from the album. The song, produced by Dr. Luke and Benny Blanco, talks about Spears abilities as an entertainer and explains the emotions she feels while performing on stage. Musically, “Circus” is an uptempo dance song, with influences of R&B.

“Circus” has received positive reviews from music critics, many praising the song’s production. The single became Spears’ first top-three debut on the Billboard Hot 100 and has sold 2.5 million copies in the US. The song has been certified platinum in Australia and Denmark and reached top ten positions in eleven countries worldwide.

The music video features Spears as the ringleader of a circus and was directed by Francis Lawrence. The song has been performed on Good Morning America to a TV audience of over 20 million as well as The Circus Starring: Britney Spears world tour. Spears opens the show with “Circus”, while wearing a ringmaster-stlye outfit complete with a whip.

Music video

The music video was filmed from October 28, 2008 until November 2, 2008. Confirmed by her manager Larry Rudolph, Francis Lawrence, directed the music video. Spears chose Lawrence, since he was the “only person who could capture it, make it really twisted, eccentric and different” . The shoot was confirmed by Spears herself on November 6, 2008 at the MTV Europe Music Awards, while on set shooting it. She was seen sporting a curled bob hair style. An exclusive three-second clip was shown during a promo for her documentary Britney: For the Record. A 30 second preview/teaser of the video was released by Spears’ Jive Records-run YouTube channel on November 25, 2008, with a second being released on December 1, 2008.

The video leaked on to the China video sharing website Tudou on December 3, 2008, although this was later confirmed that this was not the final edit of the video. The finalized video was to be officially premiered on December 5, 2008, on Entertainment Tonight. However, due to the leak and public interest, Entertainment Tonight and Spears’ management decided to change the date of the world premiere to December 4, 2008.

The video starts off with Spears at a vanity, putting Curious on as well as putting on earrings by BVLGARI. Then her shadow is seen, she is holding a hat in front of her face while birds fly out of a hat. Then Spears is shown in front of a red curtain, with the spotlight on her. She puts on a jacket and proceeds with her dance crew. As the chorus begins, they are all shown dancing. Then Spears is shown with a leaf-like bra on, dancing around chairs. Also, she is seen moving in slow motions with fireworks coming down behind her. Spears and her crew dance around a ring of fire. Throughout the video Spears is also seen next to lions and elephants.

The entertainment website, Digital Spy, described the music video as being “cheeky, seductive and more than a little bit ridiculous”, and said that Spears “delivers some killer dance routines”.[31] PETA has criticized the music video, which they claim uses cruelly-trained lions and elephants. PETA director said: “Britney may think her life is a circus, but for the animals who are whipped, chained, and beaten to perform under the real big top, the cruelty is very real. She may be headed for a comeback, but when it comes to animals, she still can’t get her act together.” This is the second time PETA have commented on the singer, the organization criticized her for dancing on stage with a yellow python at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards.[33] The video won the award for “Best Moves” at the MTV Australia Awards 2009.

The music video has received over 55 million hits since its release on YouTube alone. Total viral views total over 70 million.

On August 4, 2009 it was announced that the song’s music video had been nominated for 5 awards at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards: “Best Art Direction”, “Best Choreography”, “Best Cinematography”, “Best Direction” and “Best Editing”, however, Spears won none for this song.

“Do Somethin’” is a song by American pop singer Britney Spears from her first greatest hits compilation, Greatest Hits: My Prerogative. It was released in Europe, Australia and Canada on February 13, 2005 by Jive Records as the second single from the album. The song was written by regular Spears collaborators Christian Karlsson and Henrik Jonback, among others, and was produced by Bloodshy & Avant.

Music video

Britney made her directorial debut with the music video for Do Somethin’, she went under the name “Mona Lisa”, though she had assistance from previous Spears collaborator Billie Woodruff. Shot from December 14-15, 2004 in Los Angeles, California.

After an opening scene in which the camera takes the audience through a metal tunnel leading up to a door reading Mona Lisa, we find Spears and her crew performing a dance routine. Next, the girls make their way into Britney’s pink hummer and drive among the clouds in the sky. As it turns out, their location is a club named Hole in the Wall. Once at the club, Spears and friends attempt to liven things up by dancing suggestively, seeing as everyone there besides them are stiffs. Following their dancing, they get up on stage and toy with the guys at the bar. The ending of the video has Spears singing into a microphone with her friends as her band.

“My Prerogative” was covered by pop artist Britney Spears for her Greatest Hits: My Prerogative album. The music video was directed by Jake Nava and depicts a wedding reception party for Spears and her real-life husband at the time Kevin Federline. Her music video was chosen by Rolling Stone magazine as the best music video of 2004, whereas MuchMusic’s Fromage chose it as the worst music video of 2004.

“Outrageous” is the fourth and final single released from Britney Spears’ fourth studio album, In the Zone (2003). The single was released during the third quarter of 2004. The song was both written and produced by pop-R&B artist R. Kelly, who also offers vocals to the track. It was to be featured as the title soundtrack for the film Catwoman.

Music video

The single was supposed to be coupled with a music video directed by previous Spears collaborator Dave Meyers; however, Spears sustained a knee injury during a dance routine and could not complete it. Clips of the video feature a cameo appearance by Snoop Dogg. the video was to premiere on MTV on June 28.

Shot in New York City, New York, the would-be music video for “Outrageous” that is included on the Greatest Hits: My Prerogative DVD starts in the middle of the song where Snoop Dogg is seen playing basketball with a group of friends. Suddenly, Spears interrupts the game. She proceeds to flirt with Snoop Dogg before jumping into his arms and licking his beard during the line “until I vow to keep it forever.” (This is only shown on the Greatest Hits DVD). In the next scene, she and her dancers perform in a wet street, which is where she injures her knee.

“Everytime” is a song by pop singer-songwriter Britney Spears from her fourth studio album, In the Zone. It was released on May 17, 2004 by Jive Records as the third single from the album. The song was written by Spears and her Dream Within a Dream Tour background vocalist Annette Artani. Produced by Guy Sigsworth, the song is a tragic ballad.

The track was a big success and topped the music charts in several countries, including Australia, Ireland and the UK, while reaching top ten positions in eleven countries. The controversial music video was directed by David LaChapelle.

Music video

The controversial music video for Everytime was directed by David LaChapelle. The video begins with Spears and her boyfriend (played by Stephen Dorff) in a limo. They arrive at a building where the paparazzi are awaiting. Spears is hit in the head with a camera, but keeps walking. When in the lobby, Spears’ boyfriend begins throwing some magazines around and pushing photographers. Spears and her beau are escorted out of the room and are taken into hallways which lead them to her room. They have a fight in which her boyfriend throws a vase at the wall. He leaves and Spears begins filling her bathtub and removing her clothes. When she’s in the tub, she realizes she’s bleeding from the head, suffering a concussion from when she was hit in the head with a paparazzi’s cameras. She loses consciousness in the tub. Later, her beau finds her unconscious in her tub and calls rescue. Unconscious, Spears follows her body to the hospital, not before being shown running towards the camera away from a bright light – a scene often associated with the transition into afterlife. She is also seen walking into a nearby hospital room where a baby girl is being born, implying reincarnation. Near the end of the video, Spears is seen running away (because since you are meant to “walk into the light”) from the camera and towards the light–symbolizing a fear of staying on Earth and an embracement of death. Following these scenes, Spears is shown rising from under the water in the bathtub and resting her head and smiling. This implies that she was imagining the entire scenario and never became unconscious to begin with. This was added to perhaps lessen the severity and controversy of the explicit content of the video.

The baby scene, was Spears. She wanted to run so she could start a new life, forgetting about her boyfriend and her old life, so that is why Spears was “running towards the light”.

The video was at number one on MTV’s Total Request Live countdown for six days, and it also reached number three on both VH1′s Top 20 Countdown and MuchMusic’s Countdown.

The video was #2 on MuchMusic’s 50 Most Controversial Videos for the blood, partial nudity, and graphic scenes.

It was premiered in the UK on the MTV show TRL.

In the bath scene, Spears is seen wearing the red string worn by members of the Kabbalah Centre. This comes months after Spears was introduced to Kabbalah by Madonna. The red string was often mistaken for bloody wrists in a suicide attempt.

“Toxic” is a Grammy Award-winning dance-pop song written by Bloodshy & Avant, Cathy Dennis, and Henrik Jonback for Britney Spears’ fourth studio album In the Zone (2003). It was released as the album’s second single in early 2004. “Toxic” enjoyed critical acclaim and international success, topping many singles charts around the world. In 2005, it won the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording, Spears’ first and only Grammy to date. “Toxic” is considered to be one of Spears’ signature songs.

Music video

The music video was directed by Joseph Kahn, Shot on a Los Angeles soundstage in December, 2003 during three days, it features models Matthew Felker, Tyson Beckford and actor Martin Henderson. According to MTV News, the project got a very high budget, approximately 1 million USD. As Spears did before with the music video for “…BOMT”, she came up with a fully formed idea for the “Toxic” video as well. The video made its world premiere on MTV’s “Making the Video” on January 13, at 6:30 p.m. EST and debuted on Total Request Live two days later.

Notably, the video clip is intercut with sequences of Spears with hundreds of diamonds glued to her body and wearing only a G-string. She made Kahn clear the entire set for the shoot. The scene was widely considered controversial, MTV Network thought the music video was too racy for daytime rotation and moved it, along with another five videos, to late-night rotation, from 10 p.m. through 6 a.m. An MTV spokeswoman told Reuters the network was not engaging in self-censorship or responding to pressure from its corporate parent, Viacom Inc. She stated that:

We [MTV Network] always take into account what the cultural environment is on an ongoing basis. Given the particular sensitivity in the culture right now [Janet Jackson's infamous Super Bowl incident], we’re erring on the side of caution for the immediate future.

The futuristic video depicts Spears as a kind of villainous agent or assassin. At the beginning, Britney appears as a stewardess on an airplane. She seduces a passenger (who actually turns out to be an attractive agent disguised as an ordinary, somewhat unattractive man) in the bathroom of the airplane and steals a black pass from his pocket. In the next scene, Spears is dressed in a tight black leather suit and bright red hair. She takes a ride on a motorcycle through the streets of Paris to “Toxic Industries” before gaining entry to a vault (using the item which she stole from the man) from which she steals a vial of toxic green poison. She accidentally triggers a laser trap that she evades with elaborate dance moves (in which Spears does a back handspring over a laser). In the conclusion of the video, her costume evokes that of a superhero as she scales a building and gains entry to the residence of her cheating boyfriend(Martin Henderson). She kisses him just before pouring the poison into his mouth, presumably killing him. She kisses him again, closes his eyes and jumps out the window appearing to land back in the plane, once again sporting her flight attendant outfit.

The music video was nominated in four categories at the 2004 MTV Video Music Awards for Best Female Video, Best Dance Video, Best Pop Video, and Video of the Year. Visual effects supervisors Chris Watts and Bert Yukich were awarded for their work on “Toxic” at the 3rd Annual Visual Effects Society Awards on February 16, 2005 in the category of “Outstanding Visual Effects in a Music Video”.

“Me Against the Music” is a song performed by Britney Spears featuring Madonna. The song was written by Spears and Madonna along with Christopher “Tricky” Stewart, Penelope Magnet, Thabiso Nikhereanye, Terius “The-Dream” Nash, and Gary O’Brien for Spears’ fourth studio album In the Zone, released as the first single of the album.

It became Spears’ first number one on the Hot Dance Club Play chart. “Me Against the Music” won the Billboard Music Award for Hot Dance Single of the Year.

Music video

The video was directed by Paul Hunter and produced by Veronica Zelle. The video itself reached number one on the TRL Countdown and stayed there for a record-breaking twenty consecutive days. However, the record was beaten in 2005 by Kelly Clarkson with her hit “Behind These Hazel Eyes”. It was filmed from October 8-10, 2003 at Silvercup Studios in Long Island City, New York.
The video starts with Spears parking her car and going into a club. She walks through a series of hallways with wooden walls while Madonna observes her from a room through a video monitor. Arriving in the club, Britney dances, noticing several security cameras, while looking for Madonna, who appears on numerous television screens in the club. The two then approach the same wall from opposite sides and begin dancing in synchronicity. Madonna then enters the wooden hallways with Britney chasing after her and unable to spot her. Madonna drops her cane and disappears into a white room with a tree and swing and begins swinging while Britney finds the discarded cane and continues her search. While Britney reenters the club and starts dancing, Madonna appears on the screen singing her lines as a challenge to Britney. The two appear in a closed room with an empty metal bed frame and begin a series of acrobatic positions and movements along the frame until Madonna inexplicably disappears again. Madonna is back in the observation room and continues singing and dancing while Britney finds Madonna’s discarded coat in the swing room. She appears in the observation room and throws Madonna against the wall, moving in for a kiss. Before she can kiss her, Madonna disappears into thin air and her and her laugh can be heard in the distance as Britney looks around for her.

“Boys” is a song on pop singer Britney Spears’s 2001 album, Britney, and was the fourth single released in the U.S, and fifth single released in countries such as the UK and Australia. It was released during the third quarter of 2002. In the U.S. it became the third single off Britney to miss the top 40 and the second to miss the top 100 on the Billboard Hot 100.

For its release as a single, the song was remixed to become The Co-Ed Remix, and features Pharrell Williams on vocals. The track was featured on the soundtrack for the film Austin Powers in Goldmember.

Music video

The music video for “Boys” was directed by Dave Meyers. It starts with an intro showing a guy trying to get into the castle where a party, which Spears is attending, is being held. However, he is stopped by the guards at the entrance. He tells them that the night before, he was “eating Fruity Pebbles with P. Diddy.” The guards still refuse to let him past and he begins to scream at the top of his lungs for Britney. As the music starts, the camera zooms into a room in one of the castle’s towers, where Spears, adorned in a dress and readying herself for a party, is inside dancing with a group of women in white outfits around her. The next scene takes place in one of the courtyards where Spears and a man are sitting at opposite ends of a long table. Following this, Spears walks around a pool, where she spots a man (played by Justin Bruening) swimming around. They begin to interact with each other; at the same time, Pharrell is at the bar with a woman. Spears walks over to him and they begin to talk.Following this, Spears dances with a group of people, including Mike Myers as Austin Powers (the video was used for promotion of the film Austin Powers in Goldmember). Actors DJ Qualls, Jason Priestley and Taye Diggs also make cameo appearances in the video.

The video was retired from the video countdown on MTV’s Total Request Live and was nominated for an MTV Video Music Award in 2003 for Best Video from a Film.
