Britney Spears' Official "I'm Not A Girl. Not Yet A Woman" Single Cover

“I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman” is a song by Britney Spears released from the album Britney. It was released as the third single in countries such as Australia and the UK during the fourth quarter of 2001 and the second single in the U.S.

The song was written by Max Martin, Rami, and English songwriter Dido, and was also produced by the former two. Spears said of the song, “it’s a personal song about that transitional stage in life. A woman has all the wisdom that she needs and I’m right in between right now. I’m almost a woman. It’s a beautiful song.” (Crossroads).

Music video

Directed by Wayne Isham, the music video for “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman” became yet another to retire on MTV’s TRL. It won an award in Japan for Best International Music Video. There are two versions of the video for this track. One is the album version which features Spears mostly atop a cliff and inside Antelope Canyon. The other is the movie version, which, because the single was meant to help promote Britney’s film Crossroads, includes some scenes from the album version and also several scenes from the movie. Other scenes include Spears in a gown singing in a re-creation of one of the hotel rooms in Crossroads, one where she is sitting near a campfire, and another where she is driving the car featured in the film.

As of July 2009, the music video has been viewed over 25,000,000 times on YouTube from BritneyTV. Total views including reproductions total over 40,000,000.
